  • New students may enroll at any time during the year, and tuition will be prorated to reflect the number of lessons the student will receive.

  • Please keep in mind that our studio is operating at full capacity. Make-ups for missed lessons are not guaranteed.

  • A text is the best...and preferred reach me. (201-323-0573).   If you need to cancel a lesson at the last minute due to illness,  please text me immediately.  I check my email several times a day but texting is the best way to reach me quickly.  Please know that I let all phone calls go to voicemail during teaching time.

  • When you register for lessons, your timeslot is reserved for you for the entire teaching year.

  • A student who does not attend a lesson will simply miss the benefit of that lesson.

  • Your montly tuition reserves you a weekly time slot and benefits within the studio.

  • Please keep in mind that our studio operates at full capacity and make-ups for missed lessons are not guaranteed.

  • No refunds will be given for missed lessons, your payment will be used in the form of a make-up lesson on one of days/times put aside for your convenience.

  • Please inform me of any changes in medical history.  Please keep contact information up to date should a medical emergency arise during a lesson.

  • If you cannot attend a lesson, please call, text or email me at your earliest convenience.  Absence due to sickness tends to be last minute and is understandable...but please contact me at the beginning of the week should you have something planned on your child's lesson day.  I like to use openings in my schedule as make-up lesson times for other if you know your child will miss a lesson...I will schedule that time as a make-up lesson for others.

  • If I, personally, must miss a lesson due to illness in my family...or the studio closes due to weather...I will call, email or text you to reschedule your child's lesson.

  • Summer lessons are not always held on a regular weekly schedule...but may be offered over the summer break.   Students are encouraged to take a minimum of three lessons through the summer to maintain the skills they develop through the school year.  If unable to take summer lessons, a deposit will be required to hold their "spot" for lessons for the fall.  A summer calendar with lesson availability will be sent out to all parents in May.

I will gladly reschedule a missed lesson ONLY if your child's absence is due to one of the following situations:

  • Student illness

  • Family trip scheduled in advance

  • If the studio needs to close last minute.

Zoom lessons are now offered as a make-up when a students regular lesson time cannot be kept.

***Make-up lessons are not provided for no-show or no-call absences.***

24-hour notice is requested should your child need to cancel their lesson.

  • Every student stops taking lessons at some point. Please make this decision thoughtfully with plenty of discussion between the teacher, parent, and student so that lessons can cease with a positive sense of closure.

  • Please note that the student must finish the remainder of the month, paid in full, or forego any unused lessons. There are no refunds given.   If appropriate, a parent/student teacher conference may be scheduled before the last lesson to establish if this might be a temporary setback that can be resolved.

Should any of the following situations repeatedly occur over the course of the current school year, proper notification will be made and unfortunately will result in the dismissal from the studio.

  • When you register for lessons, your timeslot is reserved for you for the entire teaching year. (September - June)  Persistent unexcused absences or tardiness could result in termination.

  • Failure to make payments promptly could result in termination.  Monthly payment is due at the first lesson of each month.  No exceptions.

  • Failure and repeated neglect on the student’s part to take responsibility to bring necessary method books and/or materials to weekly lessons.

  • Failure and repeated neglect on the student’s part to take responsibility to maintain practice standards.

  • Failure to honor studio policies.

  • Inappropriate or disrespectful language or behavior, theft, and/or any type of misbehavior in my home.

  • Be certain your piano is tuned and in good condition. It is very discouraging to play on an out-of-tune instrument. Putting off tuning is not cost effective; a piano, which is very out of tune, will most likely require several tunings over a period of weeks or months to bring it back to pitch. I can recommend local tuners/technicians...just ask.

  • If your child is starting on a keyboard it should be touch sensitive, have full-sized weighted keys.  All keysboards should have at least 61 keys or more. Please be aware that this will only get them through the first few years of lessons. An electronic keyboard severely limits the technical and musical skills a student can practice on at home. After that, I would highly recommend investing in either a full size- 88 key acoustic piano or a good digital piano with weighted full-sized keys to get the full benefit of piano lessons.

  • Should your cell phone number  or address change at any point during the year, please keep me updated in the event of an emergency.

  • Please contact me prior to your child's lesson should there be a change in pick-up/drop-off procedures.

  • As a reminder, students are expected to be dropped off no earlier than 5 minutes before their lesson time and picked up no later than 5 minutes after their lesson time.  I am not responsible for watching your child other than during their specific lesson time.

  • As stated above...a text is the best and preferred way to reach me. (201-323-0573).   If you need to cancel a lesson at the last minute, please text.  I try my best to check my texts and emails several times a day but please know that if you try to reach me during my teaching time,  I will let all phone calls go to voicemail during lessons.

  • Parents are required to attend every studio recital that their child(ren) are involved in.

  • If at any time parents have a question or concern, they are asked to voice that question or concern respectfully via email, text or phone call at a time other than your child's lesson students before or after your child's lesson depend on their scheduled time.

  • During student and group gatherings and performances the teacher reserves the right to use video recording or to take photographs of students for use in the studio scrapbook, advertising materials, lesson demonstration and studio owned websites. Photos taken by the teacher OR that are shared with the teacher by other parents or students of gatherings or performances become the property of the studio and can be used at the discretion of the teacher in regards to the studio. The studio follows online safety rules in this matter.  *Parents wishing to exempt their students from any published media may do so by providing a written exclusion request. *

  • No gum, food, or drinks are allowed in the studio. Please dispose of any snacks or gum prior to entering the studio.

  • My studio includes a parent waiting area and a restroom. If younger siblings attend the lesson, the children should remain in the waiting area and are kindly kept quiet during lessons.

  • I expect students to have washed their hands thoroughly at home or when they get here. Long fingernails prohibits the development of good piano technique, so please be sure they are trimmed short.--no longer than the end of the finger! This is necessary preparation for every lesson.

  • Flocktown Piano Studio and Kristine Murello are released from any liabilities, accidents or injuries that may incur from the enrolled student with the participation of piano lessons, group classes, piano parties or piano events.
